About Realengo

Our story has inspired many stories around the table

Every story has a beginning. Ours starts in 1982, when Abel Olivo opens a small facility with the aim of producing rice sustainably and contributing to the region’s development. That was the seed of what is now one of the most important and influential rice producers in southern Santa Catarina. Getting here, however, took plenty of groundwork. In the early days, all that daily dedication filled just one truck a month. Through bold decisions and investment in machinery, the company grew and began to reap the rewards of a dream: from a small rice mill to an industrial operation, and from its hometown to other states.

Our journey
1982 — SOWING THE FUTURE. The seed of entrepreneurship, planted ten years earlier by Abel’s father, begins to grow. Realengo is founded, initially focusing solely on reselling rice in sacks.
1983 — BOLD DECISIONS. The first electronic sorting machine is purchased. Investing in equipment then used only by large companies shows an early commitment to the quality of the final product.
1985 TO 1992 — INVESTING IN A DREAM. Entrepreneurship means taking a chance. For Abel, backing his dream was never a problem. He always trusted that he was on the right path, guided by strong values and contributing to the development of the whole region.
1993 — FAMILY DEDICATION. The family home and the business were closely intertwined. The kitchen served as a dining room for drivers, and the bedrooms housed construction workers. Even employee weddings took place at the company. A dream built by many hands and hearts.
1994 — MODERNIZATION. Technology reaches the business with the purchase of its first computer. A period of adaptation to computerized systems begins, improving controls and preparing the company for the future.
1996 — THE NEW HEAD OFFICE. To provide greater comfort and better working conditions for the whole team, Realengo invests in a new, modern administrative facility.
1997 — EXPANSION I. The company begins investing in expansion to strengthen the brand and reach other states. A farm in Capivari de Baixo, Santa Catarina, is purchased, and the company also starts growing grain.
2000 — A NEW ERA. Driven by modernization, outdated machinery is replaced. The operation becomes more technologically advanced, leading to a cultural shift.
2005 — VALUES. Simplicity is one of Realengo’s core principles. The company seeks easier ways to do things by investing in its employees’ professional development.
2012 — POSITIONING. Professionalization of management and planning for succession.
2013 — NEW PRODUCT. Brown rice production begins to offer families more variety. A nutritious food appreciated by those who choose a healthy lifestyle.
2016 — EXPANSION II. Opening of the Santo Antônio da Patrulha/SC facility.
2018 — BRAND. A period focused on increasing the business’s visibility through rebranding. This was the year Realengo received the Great Place To Work certification.
2020 — EXPANSION III. The menu gets more flavorful with the production of specialty risotto rice. A farm in São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, is also acquired in 2020.
2021 — EXPANSION IV. Expansion continues. The farm in Palmares, Rio Grande do Sul, becomes part of the company’s crop production.
